So ends another cinderball season. And before you know it, it’ll be time to start training for trash fire curling.
Skroode
TO BECOME A LEGEND. Or a cautionary tale. Or both.
It’s a melancholy time of year. The leaves are falling, winter is coming, and it’s almost time to put the cinderblocks away for another year. Makes one think. About…things….or something. This is not as nostalgically investing as I thought.
But remember – if you’re going to do it….do it for Johnny.
Motivation inundation
As all great coaches know, motivation is key. Whether the team wants it or not.
On a more focused note, playing with the layout is something I continually try to do with the strip. Finding a balance between a stable panel layout and trying out something out of the ordinary that helps make things more visually interesting. For some a straight grid works because I feel it guides the story and lets the characters almost ‘animate’ through the panels based on the consistency. Still when that goes on for a few strips it’s time to break the thing and see what happens. Good or bad.
Or so I think.
Team Tryouch
You would think a trebuchet would be the better option. But league rules are there for a reason people. Play responsibly.
Paining Season
It’s that time of year. The leaves are turning, the air is cooling, the emergency room is prepped and the freshly groomed turf of the field calls for individuals of character to heave the ol’ cinder about.

Sriracha Super Soaker Challenge interrupted
Eye protection is overrated.
It’s a horror just to be nominated
An unscheduled two week outage. Aside from the day to day distractions of work and whatnot, there was a card to be made for my daughter’s birthday. Maybe shall post that in the blog next week.
I actually have no issue with the ice bucket challenge thing sweeping the internets. I just thought the idea of the boiling ammonia challenge to be funny. Plus the thought of someone taking it as a CHALLENGE challenge – to out do or take it to the next level. Plus someone who is not us gets hurt and that is always the funnys.
Lazy, hazy, crazy, highly infectious days of summer
Summer is rolling steadily to it’s exit. Only a few weeks left to drift in the pool followed by a round of hepatitis shots.
Glorbification
‘Not with a bang but a glorb.”
Someday if/when someone analyzes this and speaks of social commentary, I plan to just go along with it. “Yes yes totally meant that. I’m all about metaphors.”
I would think while re-creating dinosaurs and making apes servants have their inherent dangers, it would be bringing back a species we made extinct that is the real threat. Clearly they would have a very biased opinion of how to make things Right.
Justifiable paranoia
The idea of a naked invisible exhibitionist amuses me to no end. He is naked, but you can’t see him so is it still a problem? He loves it but does that alone make it wrong? Is MacGuffin overthinking or is he the only sane one?
I think we all know there is a little Reuben in all of us. Don’t we? No? Well maybe you’re just kidding yourself. And maybe I’m typing this without pants.
The world will never know for sure.
THE BOLD TASTE OF LIBERTY
I always planned for the comics near holidays to be more impulsive in a way and simple – avoid over thinking. The idea being a) to make for less time involved when obviously near holidays time was in a crunch and b) try ideas that I would not normally use.
In reality, it turns out that b) happens, but I actually spend more time on these. “What would Winston look like with a giant M-80 in his ear.” becomes “Why can’t I find good photo reference of ham-pineapple jello?”.
There is a lesson in there but damned if I’ll learn it.
